Philips Acquires Intermagnetics
Dutch electrical appliances maker Philips has won permission from the European Commission to buy Intermagnetics, a maker of magnets and imaging tools, in a USD 1.3 billion deal.
The European Commission said an investigation found the tie-up would not damage competition in Europe, after examining whether the new company would be able to control the supply of radio-frequency coils to Philips' rivals that also make magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, systems.
