IBM Owns Most Supercomputers
IBM owns the highest number of Supercomputers in the world, according to the 28th Supercomputers list being released at Supercomputing 2006 at Tampa, Florida. IBM is the owner of 47.8 per cent Supercomputers, the list said.
The supercomputer that topped the list was IBM’s Blue Gene/L that calculates at the rate of 280 teraflops. Including the chart topper, IBM processors appeared in a total of 93 supercomputers among the Top 500. In the top 10, IBM occupied four positions. With a speed of 101.4 teraflops, AMD’s dual-core Opteron processor was ranked a distant second.
